01
Au pair weekly pocket money
With all AIFS Au Pairs, your family is expected to provide a cultural exchange that includes room, full board and weekly pocket money. The pocket money amount is up to you, but we recommend $295 for up to 30 hours per week for our Classic & Plus Au Pairs, and $350 for Platinum. If your Au Pair works up to the maximum 35 hours, we recommend you increase this amount to match their extra work.
02
Application checks and screening
During your application with AIFS, you must ensure that every person aged 18 years or older who will be residing in your household during the Au Pair’s placement has completed an online National Criminal Police check. The current cost of this check is $49.00.
03
Travel and time off allowances
Host Families are responsible for transporting the Au Pair from orientation in Sydney to your home, whether by bus, car, plane or train. If your Au Pair will be driving your car during placement, they must be on your insurance policy. You also need to ensure your Au Pair has sufficient time off during placement – this should include at least one week’s paid time off and 1.5 days each week.
04
End of placement completion bonus
Upon completion of a 6-month placement, you are required to pay your Au Pair a completion bonus of $300. Families wishing to have their Au Pair extend their placement beyond 6 months will be invoiced a pro-rata amount based on the length of the extension.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
01How long does it take to find an Au Pair?
Generally it takes around 4-8 weeks to find an Au Pair for your family, but this can change throughout the year. Au Pairs from countries other than Germany can normally arrive in Australia at short notice, although finding the right match between your family and an Au Pair’s profile is our number one priority. While the matching process may take a little more time, it ensures that your Au Pair will fit your family and its requirements.
-
02I already know someone who'd like to live and work in Australia as our Au Pair, can you help?
Yes, AIFS can assist with a pre-match situation. Please contact us for further information.
-
03Can I get an Au Pair placement for longer than six months?
Many Au Pairs prefer an initial placement of 6 months however it is often the case that Au Pairs extend their placement. If you wish your Au Pair to extend their placement, please contact AIFS. We will be able to walk you through the steps as well as related costs for extending.
-
04Can we pay the Placement Fee after our Au Pair starts?
Your Placement Fee is due 1 month prior to your Au Pair's arrival or for faster placements, upon receipt.
While we understand families are busy, the Placement Fee must be paid prior to your Au Pair transferring to your family. Non-payment will result in the immediate cancellation of your Au Pair's placement. You can read more about this in our Terms & Conditions.

05If my Au Pair placement doesn’t work out, what happens?
There is no warranty as to the satisfaction or the compatibility of any particular candidate as an Au Pair for a Host Family.
